Shower enclosure or wet room - which is right for you?

Having spent more time in our homes than ever before, it is safe to say that we are all re-evaluating our choices for home decor. As such an integral part of the home, your bathroom and shower space needs to be a tranquil oasis. Somewhere to refresh, a moment to catch your breath, a minute to unwind. The question is, how does that look in your mind's eye? And which type of shower installation is the right one for you?

Wet room vs shower enclosure

Let’s start by distinguishing between a wet room and a shower enclosure.

A wet room is exactly as it sounds - a room with a fully integrated shower that has no threshold to cross and no tray to step into. Drainage is plumbed into the floor so that your waste water just falls away as you wash away your day.

A shower enclosure is built into a room and has a walk-in, walkthrough, or door threshold. The options for all these elements are somewhat endless. But what else do you need to consider?

Wet Rooms

Wet rooms have often been found in high-end luxurious settings so there is an element of desirability to them. However, the fact that there are no entry hazards, no doors, no thresholds to cross, make them universally appealing and usable by all. Great for the elderly, those with mobility issues and families alike (they are even great for pets!), if you have one shower room that is used by all, wet rooms are a great option. You simply walk in and wash away your day.

Fixed panels will prevent water overspill into dry areas and give an undeniably chic finish to a wet room. A great example of this is our freestanding fixed panel design which gives the illusion of space, even in compact environments.

Another wet room customer favourite has to be View 01. Versatile and simplistic, it is available in bespoke sizes with alternative glass and finishes.

One of the biggest considerations with a wet room is often budget. Installation can be slightly more costly due to the integral plumbing and flush finishing required. But, the benefits are plentiful. Without a doubt, they present a contemporary aesthetic that can be pared down with a very simplistic design or enhanced with lavish elegance.

Shower enclosure

Shower enclosures tend to be more cost-effective as they allow you to make use of even small bathroom spaces. Maximising space is often a need for families who are refurbishing homes and shower enclosures allow for every inch of space to be utilised so tight spaces, like en suites, can still achieve a high quality and desirable finish. Neo-angled, quadrant and corner styles are perfect for making use of tight, awkward spaces.

Frameless shower enclosures

For a more open feel, our frameless shower enclosures are elegant and timeless. We have refined and perfected the frameless shower space so that you can see just how beautiful a shower can be. Without a doubt, these enclosures bring a touch of luxury to any bathroom. Slick in design, they are ideal for creating either a wet room or walk-in or walk-through shower.

Shallow trays and modern fixtures also mean you don’t need to worry about doors - simply step in and luxuriate in the perfect shower space.

One of our signature enclosures, View 19F, is a fantastic example of a frameless shower enclosure that utilises a corner space but achieves a walk-in feel. And there are many more to choose from. Browse our corner enclosures and take a look for yourself.
