The Shower Lab - Bath Screen

The Shower Lab - Bath Screen

Bath screens are a popular choice here in the UK - largely due to our smaller bathrooms. For many of us, having the space for a bath and a shower just isn’t feasible. But, we still want the convenience of being able to jump in the shower when we’re short of time. Thankfully, lacking space doesn’t have to hinder your design in any way. Bath screens are a versatile option and one that can be customised to suit any interior decor.

Our buyer’s guide will help you to understand the full scope of options available on the market and the best bath screen for you.

Benefits of bath screens

As well as offering a suitable option for smaller bathrooms, there are several reasons why homeowners may choose to have a bath screen installed.

  • They are easier to clean than shower curtains

  • They are less prone to moisture-related mould or contamination

  • They can make a space look bigger

  • They are longer lasting and a good investment in any property

  • They can be personalised to suit the interior style of your bathroom

  • They are ideal for busy family homes, helping to keep water off the floor during busier bath times (think washing the dog or bathing the kids)

When you consider the points above, it’s easy to see why so many of us love a bath screen. So, now let’s take a look at the different options out there.

Types of bath screen

At The Shower Lab, we have 2 main types of bath screen - single panel bath screens and hinged bath screens

Single panel bath screen

These popular bath screens are manufactured from a single pane of 10mm toughened safety glass. This is fixed to the wall with either a bracket or hinge, depending on the design. Fixed single panel bath screens are sleek and minimalistic. They blend in with your bathroom design easily. Hinged single panel bath screens are often chosen to improve accessibility. You can fold them back - sometimes flat against the door, to open up the space available for getting in and out of the bath. This makes them a popular choice for families and elderly users.

Benefits of single panel bath screens

  • Easy to clean

  • Hinged variations help to improve accessibility

  • Brackets and hinges can be finished in colours to suit the rest of the bathroom

  • Simple and contemporary

For those with key accessibility and manoeuvrability issues, hinged panel bath screens are a suitable choice. Again, they are manufactured from 10mm toughened safety glass and generally come made up of two glass panels. The first panel can either be fixed to the wall or hinged. The second panel is generally hinged to the first, allowing it to be folded either back or forward easily.

Depending on the style, you’ll either be able to fold the entire screen flat against the wall or increase the access point enough to ensure everyone can jump in the tub.

Corner shape

Another thing to consider when choosing a bath screen is the shape of the corner that you want. This comes down, largely, to personal preference. Square-top corner bath screens are ideal for angular bathrooms, where other accessories and furniture features straight utilitarian lines. Round-top corner bath screens have a softer look and partner well with curved accessories, tiles and appliances. Most bath panels can be manufactured with either, so it’s worth taking a look at the other items in your bathroom to decide which is most suitable.

Other things to consider

Component colours

As with all shower screens available here at The Shower Lab, we offer the components (hinges, bracelets etc) in a variety of anodized metal finishes. This allows you to match the showering features in your room, as well as other accessories such as taps. To keep a consistent look, opt for as close a match to your shower head and taps as possible. However, there are no hard and fast rules. So, if you want to partner blacks and brushed gold or nickel with white, the option is entirely yours.

Most of our bath screens are available with the following component finishes:

  • Polished Nickel

  • Polished Gold

  • Matt Black

  • White

  • Chrome

  • Brushed Nickel

  • Brushed Gold

Glass colour/Digital print

Something that not a lot of people realise is that the 10mm toughened safety glass that we provide here at The Shower lab is also available in a range of colour options too. If you’re looking for the crispest and clean look, opt for our ultra-clear glass which has been through a process to remove the iron and the corresponding green tinger. Styles such as our satin-etched glass helps to improve privacy during a shower. Equally, blue, green or bronze glass can help to accentuate the interior details of a room.

We offer our bath screens in the following glass colours:

  • Ultra-clear

  • Clear

  • Satin-etched

  • Grey

  • Bronze

  • Blue

  • Green

If you’re looking for more of a statement, we also offer digital printing. Both scratch and water-resistant, this specialised process allows you to entirely customise your glass with a chosen image, pattern or even quote. You can be as experimentative as you want here - we just require a 300dpi image of what you want printed to enquire with our team.

Our digital print can be seen in play on the View #1, View #2, Drape and Marrakesh fixed panel shower enclosures.
