8 2021 Bathroom Trends We Think You'll See Everywhere

Bathroom design, and indeed interior design, is something that changes and transcends along with the times. 2020 was a year of upheaval but also one where we spent more time in our homes. Many of us turned to redecorate our homes, whether that was through DIY or by utilising the skills of those within our bubble. Now, as we move into 2021 and are faced with a few more months indoors, we wanted to bring you our predicted trends for this year. So you can turn your attention towards creating a bathroom that you love and can use to wash away the stresses of the day.

Bold, graphical patterns

For many of us, turning our attention to the decor in our homes means creating a statement. And while many of us put our own talents to the test during lockdown, we discovered ways of making such a statement with minimal effort. This is where bold, graphical prints come into play. Think dalmatian print, polka dots and splashes of pink. Amazon orders of self-adhesive stickers and pots of paint became a hot commodity as we turned to the areas of our bathroom where redecorating was simple. And we expect these bold and effective choices to continue into 2021 while many of us strive to create the perfect Pinterest-worthy bathroom.

Brushed gold / Brushed Nickel

During the last few months of 2020 and indeed into this new year, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of requests for brushed gold and brushed nickel. Where once chrome was the sole leader in the field of bathroom metallics (and still has its place towards the front today), more of you are turning to opulent and industrially-inspired colours as an alternative. Brushed gold has taken precedence, with bathroom designers pairing it with marble - another key favourite! And, brushed nickel is the ideal accompaniment to industrial-inspired bathrooms, such here on this sliding enclosure here at the West One Bathroom showroom.

Statement walls have long been favoured in interior design. They are a simple way to transform a space - no matter the size. And for bathrooms, there is an easy and effective way to achieve this. Waterproof wallpaper, such as the West One Bathrooms Wet System wallpaper by Wall&Deco can be installed on any wall. It has a protective waterproof finish which means it can withstand direct contact with water and does not react to humidity either. The rich and bold patterns available from this collection are wipe-clean, remove the need for grout lines and allow you to play with patterns once only achievable through careful tile placement or painting.

Think simplicity that is easy to achieve and maintain. In 2021, we expect to see more and more bathrooms designed and finished with a single block colour as the focus. Bold naval blues for that opulent, classic style. Or soft pinks to play with pastel hues and open up a space effectively. For this, pair painted walls with matching tiles and continue to style into your accessories - towel rails, toiletry bottles and even toilet paper. This attention to detail with colour continues even into your bathroom fixtures - Bespoke by Burlington is a unique collection of coloured ceramics available in both bold and vintage tones.

2020 was the year where we were asked to stay indoors. And, while many of us ventured out for daily walks and discovered the beauty of our local area, it was those outdoor spots further afield that we missed. For this reason, we predict that more and more people will introduce plants and live foliage into their bathrooms - bringing indoors the feeling of outdoors. High humidity plants, such as the Golden Pothos, Calthea and the Snake Plant thrive in environments where light may be low but moisture is abundant. Paired with neutral backgrounds or used to accentuate bold colours, these plants bring a new dimension into the bathroom.

We are continually becoming aware of how our actions on Earth affect the planet and continue to inhibit its well-being. Reports show that 41% of UK shoppers keep environmental impact in mind when shopping and this focus continues within the bathroom. Tips like reducing shower time, using a low-flow showerhead and refilling containers for toiletries are all trends we expect to see as we continue through this year of sustainability and care for our planet.

Industrial-inspiration

Uncompleted surfaces, raw finishes and a focus on mechanical detail - industrial-inspired interior design shows to sign of disappearing. And we predict that 2021 will see this become more commonplace in homes, especially with the increase in preference for brushed bronze and other darker metallic hues. Think straight lines and an urban style that makes everything look well thought out and pulled together.

Back to traditional

Where once minimalist bathrooms seem to surge in popularity, we have now noted a preference for traditional features. Victorian-inspired trends with intricate patterns and a focus on florals are having their hay-day - adorned across floors or making a statement in smaller areas of the wall. These tiles can be displayed on their own or paired with plain counterparts to create a space that feels entirely unique but still very much steeped in history.

What trends have you noticed in 2021? And what interior choices will you be making to ensure your bathroom is at it’s best this year?
