The Polonium 06 Door + Return Panel offers a single thick glass door hinged directly from the wall. The door closes on to a return panel at 90° and a completely watertight seal is achieved with the use of full height magnetic seals – an absolute must have on architects wish lists to ensure no big pools of water on the bathroom floor.
The door and panel can be fitted on either side and be made to your exact requirements in terms of width and height. This kind of corner enclosure is sometimes referred to as a DR (door & return) and is probably one of the most popular styles of glass shower screens as it can be fitted on to one of our stunning solid surface shower trays or directly on to a modern fully tiled wet floor for a truly 5 star hotel bathroom look.
On the subject of hinges, as a company with many years of experience, we understand the requirements of interior designers, architects, developers and discerning private customers and know that when they purchase a shower screen, even if it is a modern contemporary design normally referred to as a frameless shower screen, it is important to have strong, high quality hinges that don’t leak.
Our system uses exactly this style of hinge, designed to allow the full height water seal to pass behind the hinge which ensures there are no gaps through which water is almost guaranteed to pass. Care should be taken when checking this particular point as the last thing you want is to spend your money on a screen with old landscape shaped hinges where you are required to cut the water seals where they meet the hinges and where the hinges themselves have clearly visible holes in them and not all shower screen manufactures take our engineered approach.
Another important point to remember is if you want to keep the water contained you will almost certainly need your shower enclosure to have an under-frame – a small physical barrier at the base of your shower screen to stop water escaping.
All Elements shower screens are supplied with an ultra-minimal under-frame system, designed to keep water from escaping. Some manufacturers offer something similar but careful attention should be given to the design! Most are over-engineered and have unsightly grooves and crevasses that are nothing more than unhygienic dust traps that may get clogged up with grime and hair and in some cases can trap water which then becomes stagnant.
